    1. Ummm Reekay, you didn’t show the actual falls. What the heck? That’s the best part. I mean the trail and stairs are cool but the water falls and the pool are magnificent. I was there this summer with my fiancé and we had an awesome time. The falls and the pool were the highlight of the trip after walking a Kilometer through the forest.

  1. Was there yesterday. Getting all the way to the falls made this American feel like Indiana Jones! Highly recommend a tour guide if you want to go all the way to the falls. Cannot thank Jared enough!

  2. Hi Reekay. I’m a 60 yr old American, who is now legally separated after 40 years married to the same woman, It’s time to trade her for two 30’s, LOL.
I have been watching your videos, and I would have to say, that you are the most down to earth expat, who tells it as it is. Reekay, Can you advise me what Cities I should visit and for how long. I’m just not certain. what City I would like to move too. Yes I’m interested in romance but will be taking, the advise you gave in one of your video, where you said, to stay away from getting too serious till at least a year. Reekay, My pension is $1200. and savings of $3000. not much for now, but it is guaranteed income. I was thinking of traveling back and forth every 2 or 3 months to the US so that I could supplement my income and check up with my doctors. can you please be so kind to recommend to me, how you would go about moving to the Philippines. And also recommend what city would be best to live on $1200.
    Kindest of regards,
    Edward from Bakersfield,

    1. you should be fine with $1,200/month and some savings as a single guy. in general, for places to check out and decide for yourself.. i would recommend Cebu, Bohol and the Dumaguete area. if you’d like to do a one-on-one and tailor a plan specific to you via skype, contact me here and we can do that.. 🙂

  3. Bamboo “so long it reaches the ground”… 😂 hahahaha. When it was still a felony to imbibe a certain intoxicating plant we found a stand of “big bamboo” while sneaking around the off limits area of the Huntington Library. Just the right size for making bongs 😉 funny a bunch of stoned teens would enjoy checking out the Gutenberg Bible and Blue Boy and Pinky and other antiquities and art on display there.
I was reading another comment about vaccines and I’m assuming you didn’t get the full set the CDC recommends? Also the dengue vaccine only works after a mosquito infects you? I saw pix of a friend (35) that that got it after living in sjdm her whole life, I would never want it.
    Great video as usual Henry.

    1. Da plane da plane… lol some of it was also filmed at L.A. Co arboretum in Arcadia using the pond and Queen Anne’s cottage there. We used to go to the Huntington Library fairly often the gardens were beautiful and back then it was free to enter. It’s funny all the times we went to the off limits area we (4-6 people) never got caught or they didn’t care.

    2. i’ve been to the huntington estate and gardens, twice actually. some of those gardens are where parts of ‘Fantasy Island’ were filmed. 🙂

  4. Geesh. This place is just down the road from us and we havent been there yet after 3.5 yrs here!

  5. I was expecting you to actually go to the falls. Where is your sense of adventure?

    1. @Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea Then you did the right thing by not continuing the trek. The path was wiped out several years ago and you have to cross the creek because the bridge has been washed away as well.

    2. originally, we were out motorbike riding in the hills and were only going to peek down the steps. which led to reaching the bottom. i was tired just from that knowing we still had to climb back up. so.. to the river was more than we originally planned, didn’t make it to the falls. would have been better to start earlier in the day for that. 🙂

  6. The rusty metal stairs would scare me. Maybe it’ll break apart when you step on it. 5:08 was she a random tourist you guys met on the hike?

    1. yes, we met as she was on her way back up the steps. we got to talking and she was catching a flight to california the following day to check out the northern wineries. before she left we got a selfie together. very lovely woman from japan.

    1. i’ve seen spiders on bohol, from leg to leg about 6″ across, with a web that was about 7 feet wide.

    1. yes, over 300 steps each direction. carl and jen counted them but i forgot how many steps exactly.

  7. I have been to several waterfalls here, and I have yet to see one that is not beautiful, and the entrance/exit was designed for mountain goats… I once made the mistake of carrying a cooler full of stuff up, and down… Lesson learned… I think Filipino’s could make an internal combustion engine out of Bamboo… Thanks for the video, Henry…

  8. did you take a picture with a random woman? hahaha,, i saw the 2 ladies but then the last one had a red dress , was she part of your trip party ? or did one of them change clothing?

    1. yes, she’s a visitor from japan and we chatted a bit. very sweet woman. 🙂

  9. This is why i love the nipa huts made from bamboo.. they are beautiful and they grow like weeds so is not to ruin the environment. Love your show dude!
Ps. No fires that i’ve heard in the Riverside area.. just mostly in Los Angeles. I will probably go San Manuel later tonight. Take care!

  10. I have heard different advice about vaccines but I am still not clear because of all the different advice out there. Can you give me your best advice. I will be coming for 3 months and doing research for retirement there and only plan on going to major tourist spots such as Bangkok , Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. Since I live in Florida now I am used to the bugs and climate but I am not clear if I can go without the vaccines like Hepatitis and the rest. I don’t plan on being a big risk taker just want to find my Nish which involves a comfortable lifestyle in a nice area with a downtown that I can walk too. Anyone else who can add there best advice will also be appreciated.

    1. if anything, consider getting the Hep A,B shots. the dengue vaccine has been found mostly effective for those who already have had dengue. a TB shot might be the only other one i’d consider, if it’s been long enough to even need a booster.

    1. i get vertigo fairly easily. but i’d made it that far so, i kept going. it’s much easier going up than down, as far as the dizziness goes.

  11. I was there in August. The trek to the fall takes about 15 min over rocks the whole way. I hired a guide ( recommended ) I think there is around 320 steps back up the hill on the way back.

  12. Reekay are we getting a little bit to old going up and down these stairs…??? Would love to be there anyway….Have lots of fun….

    1. it was a definite workout for me. “so many steps”, i kept saying. i got 2 massages later, that helped.

  13. Gorgeous area. That’s the lifestyle I would love. Someday… Thanks Reekay for showing us around.
