After 49 years of doing the hamster-wheel in California, I finally left it all
and decided to see what Southeast Asia had to offer. I moved to the Philippines
for 6 years, experienced some of the best times of my entire life!
Now, I am exploring again and living in Vietnam. Join me as I venture out to see
more of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. I will share with you my thoughts on
what I see and how I handle the various challenges of living as a full-time expat
in Southeast Asia. For more photos and non-Youtube videos, join or follow my

REEKAY. YOU HAVE STRUCK GOLD WITH GINA. VIETNAM SEEMS A LOT MORE COLOURFUL AND ENTERTAINING THAN THE PHILIPPINES. LOOKS MORE RELAXED AT A SLOWER PACE. GREAT FOOD. AMAZING PARKS . CITY OF COLOURS. LOVE THE VIDEO’S GOD BLESS YOU BOTH. DUDE and Paul in PERTH. AUSTRALIAππππ
What’s the cost of a stay there?
Vietnam is definitely on my list of places to visit.
As a new Traveller. I’ll be heading back to Manila at the first of the year for a couple of weeks.
Be nice to have an idea of what it costs in round figures of the places you’re at.
Thanks, keep up the good work.
From Lake Stevens WA.
Wow what a great video when I visited Nha Trang back in Jan 2008 the Lonely Planet Guidebook called it the Palm Springs of Vietnam and I think they were right on track it was definitely party central of all places I visited in Vietnam.
i know you explained to her your youtube job/hobby but I’d pay more attention to your beautiful and understanding lady friend. maybe i should be corrected on this since your not creating a video everyday? but it seems to be more of a personal video. she understands since you explained the situation but still… it interferes with personal relationships , id bet she doesnt mind most of the time but there are those days where she may feel different about the filming. Just saying since she a very understanding and beautiful lady to be with
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea ok cool , so 15 mins on video . keep the private life private π I agree π Dang dude you found a real keeper , back in March , would love to be at the wedding π
i’ve said this many times before, but i’ll try to put it another way this time.
if gina and i are spending the entire day together, maybe 15 minutes, here and there, of that is spent shooting video. percentage-wise, it’s not much. it’s not the burden on our time together you’re imagining it to be.
Well Reekay, all I can say is ” You lucky Dog! ” – An Absolutely Beautiful “LADY” … treating you like a Prince in Vietnam !?! – ” Let the good times Roll ! ” ..As they Say in So. Louisiana & Texas ….. Enjoy !
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea Smart lady π Have you seen the T shirts ….’.I fear nothing ….I have a Vietnamese wife ‘ π Living one of my dreams π
not really. her mom only worked part of her life and her dad spent a lot of time working for the church. but gina and her siblings, many of them own their own restaurants and have done quite well for themselves. this is a tour of one of her 2 restaurants she built over the last 15 years… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQKikVOzvX8
looks like you guys are having the time of your lives <3 Great Episode!! Showing the beauty of all the places you see and are willing to share... Cheers!!
Usually you get what you pay for π This is not for the ‘backpacker’ on a tight budget . Maybe a one night splurge π
I would guess breakfast is included , no need for lunch π
I might also be pleasantly surprised at the costs .
will look later .
I got over via cable car , day trip , I forget , maybe $30 return , all rides are free , except jet skis and paragliding .
The Alpine Chute is awesome !
This just the hotel π
When I was rich , I paid $50 /night opposite the river in Saigon , D1 , $30 for an awesome place in Can Tho , and $10 for a flea pit in Phu Quoc π
Paid $130 for an average room in Dubai , breakfast was nothing like that .
The $65 I paid at Henley on Thames , or $140 for even less also in the UK , is all relative .
Da Lat , backpacker ‘hotel’ paid less than $20 , great room , breakfast and awesome dinner !
Go dude , so much to see and do !
My God, VinPearl, what a difference from the Philippines. I have a few rentals in the P.I. which makes the wife and I to visit the many resorts throughout the many islands each year. We normally stay in the P.I. due to all the beautiful resorts but, were planning to visit Viet Nam in Feb. We usually pay 200-300 USD per night at the resorts in the P.I. I was told the prices of the rooms at VinPearl is quite a bit less. Any ideas on the prices?
A little less , maybe π Luxury is nearer $400 , and what luxury π Am sure have more modest accommodation for you π LOL π Go see for yourself , You pay that per person sharing ?
Feb can be TET time , for a variety of reasons not got to Phil , going back to V/nam again in March .
How to get there π Cable car ? Was great π
Lots more to do there π
Thanks for your reply. Iβm a U.S. born Filipino and married my wife in the Philippines while completing my education so we have many roots in the Philippines but, since the fare to Vietnam from the Philippines is so cheap it would be like living in Anaheim and never visiting Disneyland. Two years ago our family stayed at plantation Bay at Macktan Island and spent over $3000 for our accommodation for a two week stay at plantation Bay. We had the private suite overlooking the lagoon. The resort was really beautiful and very few people, I think, because it was so expensive.
the big difference between vinpearl and say, bluewater resort (mactan) is the level of maintenance. bluewater shows signs of being an older resort due to lack of maintenance. while vinpearl, everything to the last detail was immaculate, inside and out on the grounds.
Looks like you are having a ball. Nice place!
So much better than traveling all night long in a small car? hehe
(I hope to visit there some day…)

go to the mud baths in Nha Trang . awesome for your skin
4:00, interesting pajama outfit
I think you’ve screwed more Asians than the Shanghai stock market π
Looks like the good life πΊπΈ
I wouldn’t want to be the pool boy. Taking care of that thing has to be a lot of responsibility.
Face recognition hotel buffet. π²
That would make me very uncomfortable.
2 buffets in one day plus a pizza in the middle, nice!
YUMMIE!! All of the food looks delicious, especially the pizza!
What a great place Reekay. That pizza and soup looked amazing. Gina looks like a movie star. Pretty lady. Have fun.
