How was your Shanghai layover? The Chinese immigration?
everything went smoothly. i only had the one layover in shanghai… no stopovers in central china this time. (or ever again, for me.) ๐
The reason I mention it is because it is a generous program – you can get 50% of the gross revenue from a booking done through your link.
i’ve used fiverr before for other things, perhaps i’ll give them a second look.
๐ top of mind – you could go to Fiverr.com (search YouTube SEO) and pay for search engine optimisation โSEOโ (from only $5) to increase traffic to your channel / selected videos. With the huge Filipino diaspora around the world and interested parties like me, your viewership – the audience you are delivering to advertisers – could in my view be 10x bigger or more. Effective SEO would get you that – as distinct from simply relying on organic traffic from the Google / YouTube algorithms.
Sorry not trying to be a wise guy here.
thanks, i’ll check into it.
Hi mate, re your plans for onward travel to SEA – I commend the Trip Advisor affiliate program, ie stay somewhere, eg in Bangkok, put an affiliate link in your channel below your description (as I see you do) and receive a commission if someone like me subsequently books. Go well.
The old hotel had a couple of hotels nearby , does the new one ?
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea …..it’s rare I’d need one near the airport , it’s just nice to know …
none that i saw in walking distance. here is a link showing all the hotels near the airport… https://www.google.com/maps/search/mactan+airport+hotel/@10.3049483,123.9526333,13.25z
I flew on China Eastern a couple months ago and I didn’t encounter any problems. My trans-Pacific flights were on time and even early on my return flight to SFO. However, I will say that the layovers at Shanghai Pudong (PVG) were ~5 hours which is longer than if I had taken Cathay Pacific or a number of other Asian airlines. International transfers at PVG are also a bit more cumbersome than other Asian airports since there is a maze of hallways, a ride in a small elevator, and another line to a security check with confusing signage. However, I got a roundtrip airfare to SE Asia for only $545 so I was satisfied.
Looks very nice. I might be through there if I decide to fly to Cebu.
I just got back from Cebu-Mactan airport. Itโs very nice. Great place. The wifi could use a little improvement though. Itโs kind of tricky to access and somewhat unreliable.
its like a church….small area fit for provinces…good at least
Hey looks a lot better than the last time I was there which was during construction!
Why does all the things for sale in airport are so expensive
Good info, looks like a nice new terminal in Mactan, I’ve only flown out of the once a few years ago and wasn’t very impressed with it then.
You gonna miss Philippines ๐ต๐ญ
It is not remodeled the building is NEWLY BUILT.
the domestic portion of the airport was remodeled a few years ago. but yes, the international portion is new.
I’m so glad to see this video because I’ll be flying this month to Cebu via China Eastern
There is a 72h to 5 days Visa free time for selected countries if someone is interested to visit Shanghai during a stop-over. Winter is not the best time due to coal burning and higher pollution, but Shanghai is very international and modern and is still enjoyable for a short stop-over. You can always find good food from most world countries at reasonable prices, including some innovative fusion cuisine restaurants and it’s extremely safe to live here even for ladies late at night.
I don’t know why anyone flies through China. I guess they like punishment. It reminds me of flying Spirit Airlines. You hear all the horror stories, then it happens to them, yet people get back on.
henry huge improvement on the airport , I will only take eva or Korean out of Cebu , sorry never again in china , hong kong only
Very interesting video!
Hi Reekay! Onward and upward. Have fun visiting with the family. Look forward to the next video. Take care of yourself and try to have fun.
hi ,,THIS YEAR I STAY IN PHILLIPINE next year I will go to USA for 2 months visiting family .. I’m still in ILOILO ..Tell me how the CARAVAN DE IMVASORES affects ,,Bueno Seguro pondras algun video de las navidades ,, y por supuesto uno de esos extraordinarios tacos ,,SALUDOS
Back in the states Reekay?
in a year or so is the general plan.
When are you coming back to the Philippines?
yes, for the holidays. ๐
Henry we had a brief chat at Ayala Mall late October and I mentioned that I was near Perris in case you recall. Why didn’t you fly into ONT on China Airlines via Taipei and not deal with the traffic issues at LAX? The price is definitely competitive with LAX and at this time it’s the only international airline in and out I believe.
EVA flies from Cebu to Taiwan and on to the US. China Airlines (NOT China Air Based in mainland China) only flies out of Manila. Both are really based in Taiwan and are really great airlines. China Eastern is based is based in mainland china tends to be much cheaper.
i hadn’t given it any thought. might consider it for next time. ๐
How much was your ticket? One way?
about $325
Nice video.
Here is my 10 cents…

Duterte to inaugurate Bohol-Panglao Airport
Jorge Wynno a day ago
Friendly advise! Avoid this misplaced (in
the middle of Panglao, resort island) airport for at least a year or two.
Issues are many. No adequate parking on the island, no adequate public transportation (no taxis) only antiquated tricycles, no properly built roads and highways.(roads are not machine, but hand built/!/ are narrow and have very rough surface), unruly bikers, hundreds of accident prone stray dogs on the roads, airplane noise pollution, general emission pollution. Traffic jams at the only two bridges on and off the island. Even worse traffic jams in Tagbilaran City toward the Seaport.
Conclusion: Stick with Cebu City’s world-class Mactan Airport”
I am large person. I was on flight from Chicago to Shanghai on Eastern China Airlines. I was comfortable for a 15 hour flight. The ticket was $478 Chicago to Cebu roundtrip.
China’s airport looks way better than Pinoy airport. Quality Engineering.
Noodles for 650pesos? Big rip off, corruption. I would bring my own food.
It looks liken airport hanger, what kind of engineering design is this? A 4th grader in the USA can design a better airport, give it 3 years and it will start to fall apart. Already they had flooding, air conditioner not working, sub standard food courts. And they call this a world class airport? Fuey.
…….hope you had a nice trip man……. ๐
everything went smoothly. thanks.
Airport food in Terminal 2 is pricey.
Wow the airport looks good
I never want to go through Shanghai again and Never want to fly China Eastern Airlines again if I can help it. Iโll look after things here in Cebu till you get back ๐
Your long-haul seat had much more space than I was expecting. Was that economy class or something better?
Was there last week, Korean air to Seoul on to Atlanta
Hi Reekay, always looking for beeter way to travel to Cebu. I live near Albany NY. I think Philippine airlines has a non stop from LAX to Cebu, check it out. Looking forward to your new adventure Pete.
Cathay flies HK-Cebu
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea You can fly Cathay Pacific. They transfer in Hong Kong. it is a good flight and the airport is very nice. Only problem is, I think you have to go through Manila.
I took the PAL flight from Cebu to LAX. It was a good flight. No complaints. Took it in 2016.
yes, some people prefer the non-stop flight. i personally prefer having a transfer so i can stretch my legs, break up the marathon flight.
That trans-Pacific leg is loooooong! ๐
I liked the way you included the waving girl at the end! ๐
What’s the terminal fee at Mactan now?
If you’re a resident, you pay an additional $80 USD for departure fees.
i believe it was 850p. (about $17usd) some booking sites will include it in your ticket purchase, so if they ask you for the terminal fee, show them your ticket receipt (from the email confirmation for billing) and “possibly” it’s already paid. in my case, i just paid it and continued on into the gate area after that.
i saw your video about internet in the province u made 2 years ago. did u ever solve that issue? i considering moving to province in sariaya quezon province also to start an internet cafe but im not sure depending on how internet service quality is there. im from california
yes, what finally worked is that i got an LTE connection. that got me 10-15mbps download and about 6mbps upload. good enough to teach english online, but not enough to run an internet cafe. to do that efficiently you’d need to talk to PLDT or Globe about a dedicated DSL or Fiber line.
After seeing the new terminal in January its hard to believe they really got it open on schedule! I understand the old terminal is still used for domestic flights.
lionhearted1969 u cant compare small airport like cebu with mega airport like HKIA…
yes. i used the original terminal recently when i flew to dumaguete.
reekay, have you made up your mind as to which country you will visit next,
Passed through lax last week. Best thing about L.A. is in and out. Lol .What a sad place California has become.
Thanks for sharing.
Aloha
“Best thing about L.A. is in and out.” Yeah, really great burgers i hear.
airport price!!! haha 3-4x of how much it should be =)
Yeah get 150 peso at sm mall ramen
Is terminal one and two connected in Mactan?
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea Okay thanks I was just wondering because I had always walked from the airport to the waterfront airport hotel keep up the good videos
i didn’t try to get from one to the other, so i couldn’t say.
Welcome Home Henry.. Enjoy your time with your family….
thanks. been enjoying being with them. ๐
Safe travels.
hope you not around the Fires
I carry a portable fire extinguisher.
@Reekay’s LifeBeyondTheSea Good to hear, ๐ It is so bad their ๐ we had bad ones In B.C. Canada this past summer as well. but not as bad as there. Stay safe. see you next year when I Retire in The Philippines ๐
no, fortunatelyย for us, we are south of the fires.. no issues.
Do u feel sad or excited?? By leaving Philippines for a couple of years
Yes, and I will never come back to the Philippines.
Have a great holiday Reekay, a la Henry.
Enjoy your trip.
New Mactan airport is nice especially when coming into the Philippines. I’m migration is very fast. If you are planning on going into Shanghai if you have a layover, they will try and force you into the departure area. If you go all the way to your right you will see a window that says 72 he visa. This line allows you to leave airport. If they wave you to the left they are trying to make you go to the departure area. Where the only cheap but fairly decent place to eat is at the Family Mart๐.
good to know.
